Yes in Advance

A creator says yes once, at her price. After that, any brand offer that meets it is a yes, the way an Airbnb host with Instant Book never has to approve a booking.

The idea

Tony's "Instant auto-approve rights thing" (Oct 2), built like Airbnb Instant Book. A creator sets where, how long and her price once; any brand offer that meets it is a yes on the spot. ShopMy has the switch, without a price, launched to brands Sep 30. No creator-rights platform has both a standing yes across offers and a price the creator sets.

This week

Katie's team adds one choice to the offer text they already send: reply ALWAYS. A creator who does gets a yes on her behalf the next time an offer meets that price, and a text after. No engineering. The v0

The product

Two paths. Instant: the offer meets her settings, it's accepted at once, she gets a receipt. Request: anything else comes to her with a 48 hour clock and three answers, yes, ask for more, no. We offer the standing yes right after her first manual yes. The prototype

Already agreed

The brand side, shipped Oct 7: Rights tab, one offer per creator, the price ladder, counter-offers, staff recording answers. Creators answer by text for now (Oct 2). Instant approval at a creator's own price, for later (Oct 6). And since this morning, the creator side is the top design priority, to start with Amine.

You decide

Whether to run the v0 with Katie, then the name, whether brands see her price, what happens after 48 hours, and undo. Tony owns the fork: paid offers, or rights included in every campaign. Decisions

01

Start this week, by text

The smallest real version runs on the text Katie's team already sends for every offer. One extra line and a sheet column.

The v0, step by step

  1. A brand sends an offer from the Rights tab, as today.
  2. Katie's team texts the creator the offer as today, with one more choice: "Reply YES to accept, ALWAYS to accept this one and any future offer of $75 or more for 90 days, or your price."
  3. ALWAYS goes in a new column on Katie's sheet: the price and the length she said yes to, and the date. Example: yes in advance: $75+ · 90 days · Feb 16.
  4. The next offer to her that meets it: Katie's team marks it accepted in the admin the same hour and texts her that it's done. Offers with no end date are always asked.
  5. Anything below her price is asked as today, with the reason in the text. She can text STOP ALWAYS anytime.

What it tells us in two weeks

  • Opt-in rate: of creators who say yes to an offer, how many reply ALWAYS.
  • Time to answer: hours from offer to answer, before and after. Today nobody measures it.
  • Reversals: how many "anything not right" replies follow a yes made for her. If it's above one in ten, the rule is wrong.

Read the numbers from Katie's sheet, or ask Benny once the sheet is in the admin. Revisit if fewer than one in four say ALWAYS.

What it needs from people: Katie's team adds one choice to the text they send and one column to a sheet, and records the yes in admin as they do today. What it needs from engineering: nothing. Wording by the copywriter, PROPOSED.

The v0 thread. Offer with the ALWAYS line, her reply, the receipt, then two months later a yes made on her behalf.

Drift to keep in mind. $75 survives every round but buys different things: 12 months with ads on Aug 7, 90 days with ads on Sep 10 and Oct 2. Perpetual was banned on Aug 7 and came back at $200 on Oct 2. "Take it or leave it" on Aug 7 became counter-offers on Oct 6. And the "maximize UGC purchases" line credited to Hanah in the March learning guide is Tony's, said after she left the call.

What creators told us

Nine creators heard a standing or instant version on calls between March and August. All nine liked it, and most named a condition. Every one was a hypothetical, on a call with the team.

CreatorWhat she saidHer conditionWhere it lands in the design

Ashley, Aug 7"I would accept, $50"Video already made; ad length mattersHow long: 90 days, 1 year
Nia-Emani, Aug 21"A great idea of doing UGC on the back end"No perpetuity; price per piece; ask at reviewNo end date off by default. Ask at upload is a later card

The warning sign

The hypotheticals were warm. The one real test was cold: three small creators we know well, two of them in the Collective, said no to $50 to $100 for ad rights on videos they'd already made. Katie's read was the price. So a standing yes should start from a number the creator chose, which is why the prototype builds it from the offer she just accepted, not from our suggested price. The v0 is the first test of a creator-set price.

Airbnb, start to finish

A host says yes once to a rule set. Bookings that fit confirm with no host action; anything else becomes a request with a 24 hour clock; custom prices go through a special offer. Here is the short version; the full flow has its own page.

Open the whole flow: 7 stages, 17 steps, 24 dated images →

Host setup, what Airbnb gives back, the guest booking, the confirmed booking, the escape hatch, the 24 hour request path, and the special offer. Every rule checked on Airbnb's own pages today.

Four things that shape our version

Instant is earned, then defaulted

New hosts approve their first 5 bookings by hand, then Airbnb switches them to Instant Book automatically (testing 3).

OursOffer it after her first yes, but never flip it for her.

The escape hatch was a launch subsidy

Always penalty-free if uncomfortable, 3 a year online, until 2022. Now named reasons, and heavy cancellers lose Instant Book.

OursA line to Katie's team now; decide the undo after the v0.

Outside the rules is a request, never a refusal

Long stays, late arrivals and guests who miss a requirement all fall back to a 24 hour request.

OursBelow her price, No end date, or a brand switched off: a 48 hour request.

Extensions are instant

Since mid 2026, an Instant Book guest can add nights that confirm on their own, 72 hours ahead.

OursEvery rights offer is an extension. Airbnb's easiest case is our whole case.

How others handle a standing yes

Sixteen platforms that let the person on the other side say yes in advance: creator tools, licensing marketplaces, booking and gig apps. Every screenshot was checked by eye; dates say how old each one is.

ShopMy launched this to brands on Sep 30

ShopMy Spotlights lets brands turn a creator's post into a paid ad. Creators (who had the switch by June) choose "Instant Spotlights (recommended)" or "Ask Me Every Time", and Ask Me prompts a Brand Roster of trusted brands. It asks for that choice when the first brand request arrives, the same moment as our opt-in. The one thing it lacks is a price: creators earn their existing commission. Statusphere has the price but no standing yes beyond a posted ad code.

Where it went wrong elsewhere

Choice removed. Turo made instant mandatory in 2024; escaping costs a fee, a public cancellation note and visibility.

Request mode punished. Vrbo can suspend a listing after two expired requests; Booking.com hides request properties from last-minute search.

Price taken away. Pond5 replaced contributor video prices with platform tiers in Aug 2024; Shutterstock's 2020 royalty cut led to boycotts.

New use on by default. Shutterstock data licensing runs opt-out; Adobe offers no opt-out from AI training on Stock content.

Consent in the signup terms. Insense and Social Cat grant perpetual rights through terms creators don't read.

Ten ways to get her yes

Structurally different answers before going deep on one. Each card names the question it answers. The green ones make up the recommended shape.

What if there's nothing to accept?

Included by default

Rights come with every campaign, so there are no offers to answer. Social Cat bundles them in its terms; Cohley makes perpetual rights a condition of joining, which Tony said on Oct 16 he wants to move toward.

THE FORK If this becomes the model, extension offers mostly go away. Creators pushed back on free ad rights in nearly every call, and Katie calls perpetual "super scary". Needs Tony's call before a build.

What if a person holds the yes?

Katie decides

The creator delegates once by text. Katie's team accepts offers that meet the price she said yes to and tells her after.

THE v0 Same contract as the product, run by people. Ships this week.

What does Airbnb do?

Price floor, auto yes

She sets uses, lengths and a minimum. An offer that meets them is accepted at once. Instant Book with guest requirements.

RECOMMENDED The core of the product. ShopMy has the switch without a price; Statusphere has the price without the switch.

What if the brand never types a price?

Her rate card

She publishes fixed prices. The brand's extend sheet shows her price, and buying it is instant. Statusphere and Billo work this way.

PAIRS WITH The floor idea, if brands see her price. Your call.

What if we only fix the waiting?

Ask every time, with a clock

Every offer is a request with 48 hours. When time runs out, the brand hears so and can try again.

RECOMMENDED As the fallback path. Airbnb keeps request to book next to Instant Book.

What if the yes rides on an existing yes?

Yes at campaign accept

When she accepts a campaign she also pre-agrees to extensions at the suggested price. Tony pitched an upfront $75 to Pair on Aug 19 (per notes, not re-checked).

NOT NOW The 90 day line at the bottom of the brief made many say no. Wrong moment for a new ask.

What if we ask when she's proudest?

Yes at upload

At content review, one switch: if the brand wants it longer, yes at the suggested price. The trigger Nia-Emani preferred on Aug 21.

LATER Good second place to offer it. Per campaign, so it doesn't build a standing yes.

When is she most likely to say yes in advance?

Right after her first yes

The offer to turn on the standing yes appears on the screen after she accepts an offer by hand. One tap.

RECOMMENDED The way in. No onboarding step, no settings tour. ShopMy asks at the same moment, a brand's first request.

What makes yes in advance feel safe?

A window to undo

After an instant yes, she has 24 hours to raise a problem. Airbnb lets hosts cancel some Instant Book stays without penalty.

OPEN Safe for her, shaky for the brand who may already run the ad. Prototype shows a contact line, not an undo.

What's in it for her besides speed?

Matched first

Creators with the standing yes get a small boost in matching, the way Airbnb ranks Instant Book listings higher. Tony's onboarding line already says yes "increases your campaign opportunities".

LATER Needs history and a matching change. Say it in copy only once it's true.

The recommended shape

Price floor plus the request clock plus the opt-in after the first yes, built in the Brand Collabs app chrome. Use the dark panel to switch scenarios. The note under it says what each screen borrows from Airbnb.

What exists today

  • The brand sends an offer from the Rights tab. The backend posts "[RIGHTS OFFER] Relay to the creator" in Slack. No text, email or push reaches the creator from code.
  • Katie's team texts her, then records yes, no, or a counter with an amount in admin.
  • An unanswered offer lapses after 14 days. Only staff can cancel one.
  • No rights preference exists on a creator's profile, and there's no creator API or screen for offers. The Sep 10 onboarding question was never built.
  • The creator app's only rights text is the brief card: 30 days of organic use by default.
Instant path

What Katherine sees

Three small changes to the Rights tab that shipped on Oct 7. Everything else on the brand side stays as built.

1. In the extend sheet, under "Your offer". When the creator's standing yes covers the type and length the brand picked, one green line: "Emery says yes right away to $75 or more for 90 days." If her own price is higher than the suggested one, the amount prefills with her price. A brand she has switched off never sees the line, and nothing tells it why.

2. After Send. A covered offer skips "Offer sent". The row turns Extended with the answer line agreed on Oct 6, "Emery said yes Feb 16", and the green check page says the rights are already live. The copywriter's alternative, if the brand should know it was instant: "Emery said yes right away, Feb 16".

3. When 48 hours pass. An unanswered request reads "Emery didn't answer by Feb 18" and Extend opens again. Today an offer lapses after 14 days (shipped Oct 7), set while Katie's team relays by text. Once she answers in the app, I'd shorten it to 48 hours. OPEN

Whether the brand sees her price at all is the first decision below. Showing it gets more offers accepted instantly. Hiding it stops brands from always offering the minimum.

The rules behind it

How the app decides between the two paths. All PROPOSED; the per creator offer and the price ladder underneath are AGREED.

RuleIn words
CoveredYes in advance is on, the brand is one she says yes to, the offer's use is one she allows (their pages, or ads too), its length is one she allows, and the amount is at least her price for that use and length.
PriceHer price is either our suggested ladder (organic + paid $75 / $150 / $200, organic only $50 / $100 / $150) or her own numbers. The brand pays what it offered, so an offer above her price pays her more.
No end dateOff by default (Perpetual on the brand side). Such an offer is always a request unless she turned it on.
BrandsEvery brand she has collabed with is listed and on. A brand she switches off always gets a request, whatever it offers. This covers Tony's "for the brand" scope; the main switch is his "in general".
The setOne offer covers all her videos in the campaign (agreed Oct 6). Covered means the whole set is a yes.
Request clock48 hours from the moment the offer reaches her, the answer window in the Aug 4 creator campaigns prototype. Push at send, reminder at 24 hours left, then it lapses and the brand can send again. Shipped today: 14 days, set while Katie's team relays by text.
ChangesSettings apply to new offers. Turning it off never touches yeses already made.
Ask for moreOn a request under her price, Ask for more prefills her price. The brand accepts or declines (agreed Oct 6).
Opt-inOffered once, on the screen after her first manual yes. It starts from that offer: the same places, the same length, and the amount she just accepted as her price. Also reachable any time from Collab Preferences, where it opens on suggested prices.
Onboarding answerOnce the onboarding ads question ships (agreed Sep 10, not built), a "No, never" there starts "Ads too" off and locked until she changes that answer.
Katie's teamRelays only requests. Sees every instant yes in the admin, and gets the "Something not right?" texts.

Opt-in defaultsOff until she turns it on. Offered once, after her first manual yes, starting from what she accepted.
Auto-acceptTwo paths: instant when an offer meets her settings, a 48 hour request otherwise.
NegotiationAsk for more on any request; the brand accepts or declines.
Payout timingOPEN Not decided. The copy only promises "We'll let you know when it's sent."
Creator controlsWhere, how long, her price, brands she says yes to, and one switch to stop.
"Can I revoke this?"She can stop new yeses anytime. Yeses already made run to term. An undo after an instant yes is open.
How scary it feelsNo "rights", "license" or "usage" on creator screens. "Your posts stay yours and stay on your page." No end date starts off.

For the v0

  1. Run the ALWAYS reply? I'd say yes, with Katie, on the next offers that go out.
  2. What ALWAYS covers. I'd say the price and length she just accepted, or more. No end date is always asked.
  3. Where it's recorded. A column on Katie's sheet, owned by Katie's team.

For the product

  1. The name. The copywriter recommends "Yes in advance": it reads as a sentence on every screen, and "Instant yes" next to "$75 to you" sounds like instant pay.
  2. Does the brand see her price? I'd show the line only when she covers the offer, and prefill her price. It gets the most instant yeses. The risk: brands stop offering more than her minimum.
  3. 48 hours or 14 days? Offers lapse after 14 days today. I'd move to 48 hours once creators answer in the app, with a reminder at 24, and show the lapse on the brand's row.
  4. Can she undo? I'd keep a contact line, not an undo, until the v0 shows how often an instant yes is regretted.
  5. Brand size. Emily's Ulta problem. The brand switch covers a veto; prices that scale with brand size can wait while most Benable brands are small.

The fork, money, matching

  1. Offers or included? If rights become a condition of joining, the Cohley model he raised on Oct 16, most extension offers go away and this study shrinks to No end date and ads. I'd keep offers: nearly every creator call asked to be paid for ads.
  2. Creator payout for extensions. Not decided since the Oct 7 handoff. An instant yes promises money she hasn't seen arrive.
  3. A matching boost for creators with yes in advance, the way Airbnb ranks Instant Book listings. Later, once it's true.
  4. Creator-size pricing on the ladder (agreed for later on Oct 6).

Build notes

  1. On the creator's profile (no rights column exists today): on or off, places and lengths, price mode with her own numbers, brands switched off.
  2. One check in the send-offer service: covered or not. Covered writes the same accepted record staff write in admin today, with the brand's amount and no staff step.
  3. "Suggested prices" should follow each brand's own price list, which staff can change per brand in admin.
  4. A creator API and push for both paths; the lapse job moves from 14 days to 48 hours.
  5. Payout: the owed list and CSV exist; paying creators is not wired.

One-pager

ProblemEvery rights offer pings staff in Slack, waits on Katie's team texting the creator, then on staff typing her answer into admin. Brands wait up to 14 days, Katie's team chases, and the creator answers the same question each time.
UsersCreators who have already said yes to an offer (first), then every creator with a live post.
GoalMost offers that meet the suggested price are a yes within the hour, with no relay.
Not nowMatching boost, creator-size pricing, an undo, a standing yes at campaign accept.
MetricsOpt-in rate after a first yes, share of offers accepted instantly, median hours to an answer, reversal texts per 100 instant yeses.
v0The ALWAYS line by text, run by Katie's team. Two weeks, then decide on the build.
